Day2: you and the person you used to be close with
Some people are born to be social butterlies...I was not one of them. I remember my mom and teachers being a little concerned at how quiet I was. I never felt the need to move out of my comfort zone and talk or play with the other kids. If they wanted to play with me, fine...but I wasn't going to be the one to initiate it.
Maybe I was so shy because I was teased quite a bit about my hair. I had really fine blonde hair that stood straight out, making me resemble nothing less than a cotton ball. So, when I was in second grade, imagine my awe when this little girl sat right in front of me who had the longest, most beautiful hair I had ever seen in my life. When it was time for recess, I mustered all the courage my shy little loner self could and said, "You have really pretty hair." She said, "Thanks. Wanna go play?" And we became the best of friends from that moment on.
We were seriously like sisters..twins in fact. We remained best friends until High school...we were still friends, but she was in choir (one that I desperately wanted to be in, but I didn't make the cut) and I was a cheerleader (the worst cheerleader in the history of the world! I could do jumps and cheers just fine, but while the other girls were primping, I just put my hair back in a pony tail and called it good). We were starting to grow apart. Then my dad started teaching at a charter school called Sequoia and I had to leave the only true friend I had ever had.
Thanks to facebook, we still keep in contact, but I would like to get together more often. She's seriously one of the best (and funniest) people I have ever met.
